This paper establishes factors that determined the percentage of coper coins in the total revenue of the central government, by the condition of production (dry field ratio), transportation (overland transportation or otherwise, time required to Seoul, amounts
of taxes), market (local market density, large market or otherwise), and the proportion of miscellaneous
taxes. This paper, using Buyeoksilchong published in 1794, the size and the
composition of revenue of the government, and analyzes the factors that determined the taxation of copper coins by the cental government in late Joseon Korea.
The central government procured copper coins of 1.32 million yang, that was 14.9 percent of the total revenue and 27.1 percent of
the central revenue. The cental government had stronger intention to procure taxes by commodity than the local governments.
The systems of power had been changed according to the ban on sorting out coins and the coin policy of the Oda & Toyotomi government since the late 15th century.
